Understanding the engagement

Employee guide

Last updated July 27, 2026

Your company is running a short process-mapping engagement with flowscope. This page explains what is happening and why, and what will appear on your computer. The FAQ answers the questions people ask most, and the full detail behind every statement here is on the flowscope trust center.

What is happening, and why

Process mapping is the practice of documenting how work actually flows through a business: which steps a process really involves, which systems it touches, and where time is spent. During the engagement, a desktop app and a browser extension observe activity inside the applications your company approved, and flowscope turns those observations into a map of how each process runs. Because the map comes from observed activity rather than interviews or shadowing, it takes almost none of your time and reflects how work is actually done.

The purpose is to understand where time goes, to remove repetitive busywork, and to spread the best ways of working across the organization. This is process improvement, not performance monitoring. The output is a map of how processes run, not reports on individuals. And the software only observes: nothing is clicked, typed, or changed on your behalf.

What to expect on your machine

In most setups, two things arrive automatically on your managed computer, like other company apps: the flowscope desktop app in your Start menu, and the flowscope browser extension in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, marked managed by your organization. If your organization asks you to install flowscope yourself instead, Installing flowscope yourself walks through it; everything else on this page is the same either way.

Your part is a one-time connection. The app opens on two cards, one for this computer and one for capture, and you sign in with the work account you already use. Nothing is captured on your device until you have. What flowscope records, and what it never records, is listed under What is recorded at the bottom of that window. The short guides: Pairing the flowscope app, then Pairing the browser extension, which usually connects on its own after that sign-in.

Day to day, nothing changes in how you work:

  • A flowscope indicator is visible in your system tray whenever capture is on, with a start and stop control (on in the standard setup; your company decides whether it stays available). Pause it yourself from there, no request to IT.
  • It only watches the apps and sites your company chose to include. Personal banking, payment, and health sites, personal email, password managers, encrypted messengers, legal and government portals, and private or incognito windows are off-limits by design, and no local setting can widen that. The full list is in Your privacy and controls.
  • When the engagement ends, capture stops, and you can remove flowscope yourself without an administrator.
